Real Men Say No

Last Sunday, I went to a recollection sponsored by Opus Dei at Buklod Activity Center and it was an eye opener for me.

I accept that as a physician, I have been a supporter of using condom as one of the solution to stop HIV from becoming a major health problem in our country. However, after the recollection I learned that this solution is only temporary.

For several years, together with other government physicians, I continuously educate our constituents about HIV and AIDS and so far, the number of infected Filipinos is still increasing. As of yesterday, there were about 4,500 documented cases already.

As you can see, condom and health education is not enough. I think what we really need to do right now is to renew our relationship with HIM so that we can reevaluate our virtues in life.

For me, the virtue of chastity is another solution to our problem. This is one of the issues discussed during the recollection which made me realized that we need to change the way we look at sex. I am no priest or pastor but I understand where they stand. In order to address the HIV problem in our country, first we need to be faithful to our partners. We also need to see women not as sex object but as persons who needs our love and respect.

So guys, be a man by saying no to temptations. I believed that this would mean a lot not only to you but also to your love ones.
