On Jan. 18, 2009, my mom celebrated her 68th birthday. I was given the task by my siblings to look for a gift for our mother however I have difficulty looking for one. Ten days after, my sister called and she suggested that we will give her something unique like My Phone/My Heroes commemorative cell phone.
My Phone’s latest Q21 Duo is one of three cell phones (including MS28 Duo and B21 Duo) chosen by the Aquino family to commemorate their parents legacy by reproducing collector’s edition My Phone units in which part of this proceedings will be shared to Benigno S. Aquino Foundation. This will help fund the foundation activities aimed at promoting love of country, faith and integrity as part of the legacy of Ninoy and Cory Aquino. Q21 Duo is a Dual SIM Qwerty keypad phone with GPRS, WAP, SMS, MMS, E-mail, MP3, Bluetooth, 1.3 Megapixel camera and expandable memory of up to 2G. What made these cell phones very special is that it contains Ninoy and Corys’ biography and unforgettable inspirational messages and videos. In addition to this, it also contains prayers, novenas and bible passages. I think this is a very useful gift for our mother.
My Heroes, actually my family’s heroes are Ninoy and Cory. We believed that there are no other Filipinos today that we could compare what this couple had done for the restoration and preservation of our democracy. They also inspired us as a family because of their strong faith and trust to the Lord despite the adversities that came into their lives. They proved to us and to the whole world that prayers can move mountains. Prayers have been the backbone of their family and so thus ours.
My Mom has been an admirer of Ninoy and Cory. When Ninoy was assasinated in the tarmac of Manila International Airport, I can’t forget how shocked she was as she watched the news on TV. After Ninoy’s death, my mom was very active in joining rallies like Justice for Aquino Justice for All (JAJA) calling for Marcos to resign. On February 25, 1986, I can vividly picture my mom shouting for joy outside our house when we learned that Marcos fled to Hawaii because of People Power. On the same day, Cory became the first woman president of the country and few months after my mom was appointed as Officer in Charge (OIC) and became the first woman local chief executive in our town. Even after Cory’s presidency, my mom continued to adore Cory’s way of life. My mom was also fascinated on how prayerful Cory was and how she faces her problem with full confidence even after she learned that she has cancer because of her strong faith.
So, after all those considerations mentioned above, finally we decided that there’s no better way of celebrating her birthday this year by giving her this special phone. Happy birthday Mom!
